SCHOLARSHIPS ADMINISTERED BY THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE GREAT RIVER BEND

  • Harry M. Nabstedt and Myrtle B. Nabstedt Revolving Educational Fund - Recipient must be a resident of Scott County, Iowa

  • Edwin R. Adland & Ruth H. Adland Scholarship - RENEWABLE.  Seniors from Jackson, Clinton, Cedar, Johnson, Muscatine, Scott, Carroll, Whiteside, Henry, Knox, Mercer, and Rock Island counties are eligible.  Recipient must plan to attend Augustana College - Rock Island, IL; Iowa State University - Ames, IA; or the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA.

  • Ted & Eloise Pfeiff Scholarship Fund - RENEWABLE.  This scholarship is awarded every four years.  Available in 2011.  Seniors from the Davenport, Bettendorf, or Pleasant Valley School Districts are eligible.  Recipient must major in education and attend Northern Iowa, Iowa State or University of Iowa or initially attend community college with intention of completing their education at above schools.

  • Louis F. Bulechek Memorial Scholarship - RENEWABLE, for Tuition Only.  Seniors from Jackson, Clinton, Cedar, Johnson, Muscatine, Scott, Carroll, Whiteside, Henry, Knox, Mercer or rock Island counties are eligible.  Financial need is the major criteria (75%).

  • Morency Foster Youth Scholarship - Seniors in Jackson, Clinton, Cedar, Johnson, Muscatine, or Scott counties are eligible.  Recipient must have been in the foster care system for the consecutive 12 months prior to their 18th birthday, or for the consecutive 12 months prior to beginning their post-secondary education.

  • Mike Condon Memorial Scholarship - Seniors in Jackson, Clinton, Cedar Johnson, Muscatine, Scott, Carroll, Whiteside, Henry, Knox, Mercer, and Rock Island counties are eligible.  Recipient must plan to enroll or be enrolled in construction related course of study.

  • Great River Bend Cyclone Award Scholarship - Jackson, Clinton, Cedar, Johnson, Muscatine, Scott, Carroll, Whiteside, Henry, Knox, Mercer and Rock Island are eligible.  Recipient must plan to attend Iowa State University.

  • Iowa-Illinois Regional Auto Show Scholarship - Bureau, Carroll, Henderson, Henry, Jo Daviess, Knox, Mercer, Rock Island, Warren, Cedar, Clinton, Des Moines, Henry, Jackson, Louisa, Muscatine, and Scott counties.  Applicant or family member must have been employed for not less than one year at a new car dealership. Application due by January 15, 2011

  • James D. Morrison Scholarship - A senior or graduate from Pleasant Valley High School who is majoring in English or related field is eligible.  Education majors are considered.

  • Dr. & Mrs. Yang Ho Rhee Scholarship - Seniors in Rock Island or Scott county are eligible.  Must be of Korean ancestry.

  • Don E. & Charlotte Williams Scholarship - RENEWABLE.  Seniors in Clinton, Cedar, Muscatine, Scott, Whiteside, Henry, Mercer, or Rock Island are eligible. 

  • Edwin & Rupert Kautz Family Scholarship - Seniors from Schott county are eligible.  Students must plan to attend St. Ambrose University.

  • Cordova Scholarship - Age is not a factor.  Applicant can be currently attending college or trade school.  Available to any Final Settlement Class member's dependents, children or step-children.

Iowa College Student Aid Commission Site

 

Iowa College Aid lists Iowa scholarships and grants.  Each scholarship has its own application process and selection criteria. Some scholarships are one-time awards, while others are renewable for multiple years.  Scholarships and grants require a completed FAFSA application.  Below are a list of scholarships and grants with brief descriptions, please visit each for detailed information.  Online applications are open beginning January 1 prior to the academic year for which you plan to attend.

  • All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship - a state-funded program that provides scholarships to Iowa students who do well in high school (at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and demonstrate financial need (determined by FAFSA application).

  • Governor Terry E. Branstad Iowa State Fair Scholarship - recognizes outstanding Iowa high school seniors who have actively participated in the Iowa State Fair.  Up to four (4) scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 are awarded each year.  These scholarships are not renewable.

  • Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship - provides renewable funds of up to $1.500 to Iowa high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement.  The competitive selection is determined by academic officials.

  • Robert D. Blue Scholarship - funded by the Iowa Centennial Memorial Foundation's interest earnings; thus, the number and amounts of scholarships awarded vary from year to year. These amounts awarded have varied from $500 to $1000. Last year the Foundation funded twenty $1,000 scholarships.

  • Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship - given to a high school senior who is a son and/or daughter of an Iowa Farm Bureau member enrolled in an accredited college, university or community college and who is working toward a degree in one of the following areas of agriculture and/or agribusiness: (1) Production, (2) Horticulture, (3) Sales and Service, (4) Products and Processing, (5) Forestry, (6) Conservation, (7) Mechanization, (8) Research, (9) Economics, (10) Education and (11) Ag Health (Occupational Health and/or Veterinary Science) curriculum

  • Iowa National Guard Educational Assistance Grants - provides annual awards to Iowa National Guard members who attend eligible Iowa colleges and universities. Maximum individual awards cannot exceed the resident tuition rate at Iowa Regent Universities.

  • Iowa Tuition Grant - distributed to Iowa residents enrolled at one of Iowa’s eligible private colleges and universities. Priority is given to applicants with the greatest financial need.

  • Iowa Vocational-Technical Tuition Grant - Iowa residents enrolled in vocational-technical or career option programs at Iowa community colleges may be eligible to receive these grants. The maximum Vocational-Technical Tuition Grant is $1,200 per year for up to two years of education.

  • Iowa Barber and Cosmetology Arts and Sciences Tuition Grant - available to assist Iowa residents attending participating barber and cosmetology colleges throughout Iowa. Priority is given to students with the greatest financial need. The maximum grant is $1,200 per year.

  • All Iowa Opportunity Foster Care Grant - State-funded grant for students between the ages of 17 - 24 who age out of Iowa's foster care system, age out of a State Training School, or are adopted after the age of 16. Apply by March 1 to receive priority deadline.

  • Educational & Training Voucher (ETV) Program - State-funded grant for students between the ages of 16 - 23 who age out of Iowa's foster care system, age out of Subsidized Guardianship, or are adopted after the age of 16.  Apply by March 1 to receive priority deadline.

Iowa State University Scholarships

Scholarships for first-time students.  These scholarships are available to first-year students entering the University directly from high school. None of them disqualify you from receiving need-based aid, so we encourage you to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.

Iowa State University Special Awards for Iowa Residents

Two awards are available:

  • Academic Recognition Award, scholarship amounts vary from $500 - $4000, dependent on percentile rank. Students who rank in the top 15% of students of their high school graduating class are eligible. 

  • President's Award for Competitive Excellence, academic preparation requirements: math through one year of calculus, science through three years (biology, chemistry, physics), a single foreign language through four years, GPA of 3.30, ACT of greater than 28 or SAT I of 1420.

  • Hixson Opportunity Award, The Hixson Opportunity Award is now a half-tuition scholarship (estimated value of more than $13,000 over eight semesters) offered annually to Iowa students. More than 750 Hixson Scholars have graduated from Iowa State University thanks to assistance from this award.  Must be received by February 1, 2009

  • VEISHEA 2008 Leadership Scholarship for Outstanding High School Seniors,  This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who will be attending Iowa State University the Fall Semester of 2008. Eligibility requirements include: Ranking in the upper 15% of high school class, having an ACT composite score of at least 26 or an SAT score of 1760 or above, and exhibiting involvement in high school and community activities, particularly in leadership positions. Semi-finalists will be contacted for a phone interview after applications have been evaluated. Scholarships are in the amount of $500.  Must be received by February 2, 2009

  • John T. and Thelma V. McColm Scholarships, This scholarship is for incoming freshmen at Iowa State University. Applicants must display financial need. This scholarship is for the amount of $1,000 and can be renewed for up to 3 additional years.  Must be submitted by March 1, 2009

  • Dorothy Klindt Memorial Scholarship,  is for Iowa State University and available to incoming students.  To be considered for this award, students should complete the application and attach a one-page biographical sketch.  Eligibility requirements include having an above average academic work, demonstrating leadership, and being involved in the community, school, etc.  This scholarship is for the amount of $1,000 and can be renewed for up to 3 additional years. First preference is to female students from rural areas.  Must be submitted by March 1, 2009

  • ACACIA Leadership Scholarship, The ACACIA Leadership Scholarship is available to any male, graduating senior who attends Iowa State University. Financial need is not a criteria. Up to 11 scholarships will be awarded with a maximum value of $1,000 each.  Must be submitted by March 1, 2009

 

University of Iowa Scholarships

Scholarships for first-time students.  These scholarships are available to first-year students entering the University directly from high school. None of them disqualify you from receiving need-based aid, so we encourage you to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.  Visit the Scholarships for First-Year Students website for all first year scholarships available.

  • Presidential Scholarship, $52,000 ($13,000 a year for up to four years) through a combination of a $10,000 Presidential Scholarship and a $3,000 Old Gold Scholarship (below) Requires an ACT composite score of 30 or above (a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1330 or above) and a cumulative high school grade-point average (GPA) of 3.80 or above on a 4.00 scale.

  • Old Gold Scholarship, a $12,000 ($3,000 a year for up to four years) For the top 350 applicants in the Presidential Scholarship (see above) competition.

  • Dean Gerhard Loewenberg Scholarship, a $2,500 scholarship for the top-ranking College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
    alternate in the Presidential Scholarship (see above) competition.

  • College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Excellence Award, a $2,000 scholarship for selected Old Gold Scholars (see above) with majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. 

  • National Merit Scholarship, a $12,000 ($3,000 a year for up to four years) for National Merit Scholars

  • Provost’s Scholarship, a $12,000 ($3,000 a year for up to four years) for National Merit and National Hispanic Scholars and National Achievement Finalists who designate the U of I as their first choice institution.

  • William and Effa McMeans Scholarship, a $8,000 ($2,000 a year for up to four years) for selected National Merit Scholars enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

  • University of Iowa National Scholars Award, a $16,000 ($4,000 a year for up to four years) scholarship for non-resident and international students who have a Regent Admission Index of 290 or above.  Eligible students are considered automatically upon admission.

  • Advantage Iowa Award, a $2,000 to full tuition scholarship for students who will contribute to a diverse learning environment.  Award is based on merit (test scores, GPA, class rank).  Eligible students are considered automatically upon admission.

  • Iowa Heritage Award, a $6,000 ($1,500 for up to 4 years) scholarship available for non-resident students whose parent (s) graduated from U of I with a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree.  Must be submitted by May 1, 2009 for fall admission

  • Halas-Sayers Scholarship, this scholarship amount varies, dependent on other scholarships received.  Scholarship is for members of underrepresented groups who declare a major in: physics, astronomy, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering (any type), environmental sciences, geosciences, mathematics, microbiology, physics, science education, speech and hearing science, or statistics.  Must be submitted by Feb. 13, 2009

  • Tippie Scholars Program Scholarship, a $1,500 scholarship for students who qualify for direct admission to the Tippie College of Business.  Must be submitted by Feb. 1, 2009

  • Shoemaker-Strickler Memorial Scholarship, scholarship is equivalent to tuition, fees, and books for chemistry or physics majors.  Requires an ACT composite score of 30 or above and a cumulative high school grade-point average (GPA) of 3.80 or above on a 4.00 scale.  Must be submitted by Jan. 15, 2009

  • Engineering Excellence Scholarship, a $1,500 scholarship for engineering majors who have a 3.70 GPA OR an ACT composite score of 28 or higher.  Must be submitted by Jan. 30, 2009

  • Engineering Opportunities Scholarship, a $2000 scholarship for engineering majors who are underrepresented in the field of engineering.  Must be submitted by Jan. 30, 2009

  • The Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship, The Pearl Hull Falk scholarship provides a $400 scholarship (paid in increments of $200 at the beginning of each semester) to students who are of the Protestant faith, a resident of the state of Iowa and are planning to be a full time student at the University of Iowa.  Must be submitted by May 1, 2009

  • Delta Chi Fraternity Iowa Chapter Sir Edward Coke Scholarship, The Iowa chapter of the Delta Chi Fraternity is offering several one-year scholarships to incoming male students to the University of Iowa.  Membership in Delta Chi is not a requirement for the award.  The intent of the scholarship is to recognize and reward incoming students for academic achievement, leadership potential and community service.  Must be submitted by August 1, 2009

 

University of Northern Iowa Scholarships

Scholarships for first-time students.  These scholarships are available to first-year students entering the University directly from high school. None of them disqualify you from receiving need-based aid, so we encourage you to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.  Other scholarships are available by majors and departments.  Check the UNI Scholarship Directory for specific criteria.  Must complete the online UNI Common Scholarship Application for consideration

ottom: 0"> Presidential Scholarship, an $8,000 annual scholarship for students who rank in the top 10% of high school graduating class with a composite ACT score of 29 or above.  Selection is based on campus interview.  Renewable for 3 years with a college GPA of 3.5 or above.

  • Distinguished Scholar Awards for Iowans, a $1,500 annual scholarship for Iowa residents in upper 20% of high school class or have an ACT score of 26 or above.  Must be submitted by March 1.

  • Out-of-State Scholar Awards, a $1,000 to $3,000 scholarship for a nonresident current year high school graduate.  Amount dependent on Composite ACT score.  Must be submitted by March 1.

  • Legacy Scholar Awards, a $1,000 to $3,000 annual scholarship for a nonresident student who has had a parent or grandparent alumni or a sibling currently enrolled at UNI.  Must be submitted by March 1.

  • Multicultural Scholar Awards, a $2,500 scholarships for minority high school students ranking in the top 30% of high school graduating class or have a composite ACT score of 23 or above.  Must be submitted by March 1.

  •  

    Scott Community College

    Scott has a variety of scholarships available.  There is one common application for all of the scholarships available through Scott.  Due dates are April 1 for fall admission and November 1 for spring admission.  Visit the Scott Community College website for all possible scholarships.

    • Stone Opportunity Scholarship, Must have completed the ACT (composite 23) or rank in the upper quartile of class. Must intend to enroll in Scott Community College. Awarded to qualified applications in the order received (postmarked). Last year, some waiting list applicants were awarded. 

    • STEP Scholarships, scholarships are worth up to $2,400 at any Eastern Iowa Community College or $3,000 at St. Ambrose (for those entering the pre-Engineering program at St. Ambrose) for women and minorities interested in science, math, and physics careers.

     

    Grand Lodge of Iowa Scholarships

    Grand Lodge provides several scholarships.

    • The Scholarship Selection Committee of the Grand Lodge of Iowa is awarding an estimated 60 scholarships of $2,000 to students graduating this year and are pursuing a post-secondary education in any state.   Due February 1st.

    • The Mark Earl and Esther Ruth Spencer Technical Scholarship will be awarded to a number of graduating Iowa public high school seniors who plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College.  Due March 1st.

    Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship Award

    Due: October 2, 2011

    For the past sixteen years, Wendy's Restaurants have teamed up with the Heisman Memorial Trophy committee to create the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.  The award honors both male and female high school athletes who excel in academics, athletics, and student leadership.  Eligibilty for application is students entering their senior year of high school in the 2010-2011 academic year who have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport.  This is an online scholarship only.

    AES Engineers

    Due: October 7, 2011

    This scholarship is for the amount of $500.  AES Engineers are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted.
    Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility.  You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. Applicants must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to the following question: What impact will the Natural Disasters of 2010 have on the global economy? How should these events affect future political, business and personal decisions?  Submit essay to: scholarships@aesengineers.comThere is no application packet for this award. Please do not include your resume at this time.  Be sure to include your full name as well as the name of the school you are attending in 2010/11 and your plans for 2011/12.

    Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program

    Due October 30, 2011

    The Horatio Alger Scholarship Program provides 104 $20,000 scholarships awarded to give financial assistance to high school students who have overcome great obstacles in their lives. Eligibility requirements include: be enrolled full time as high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter college no later than the fall following graduation; have a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution located in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution); critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred; if higher, explanation must be provided); involvement in co-curricular and community activities; demonstrate academic achievement (minimum grade point average of 2.0); and be a United States citizen.

    Voice of Democracy

    Due November 1, 2011

    Created in 1947, the Voice of Democracy (VOD) scholarship program is an audio-essay contest for high school students in grades 9-12 that annually provides more than $3 million in scholarships.  The first-place winner, who competes with all the first-place VFW Department winners, receives a $30,000 scholarship that is paid directly to the recipient's American university, college or vocational/technical school.

    Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE)

    Due November 1, 2011

    FIRE defends civil liberties on behalf of thousands of students and faculty members on our nation's college campuses.  This year FIRE is holding their third annual "Freedom in Academia" high school student essay contest.  FIRE will award $12,500 in college scholarships, including $5,000 to the student with the best essay.

    Council for America's First Freedom
    (online registration) Due November 14, 2011

    The Council for America's First Freedom announces the First Freedom Student Competition. This national essay contest is open to 9th - 12th grade students to compete for a $3,000, $1,500, and $750 award, as they examine the first amendment and the history and relevance of religious freedom in America and the world today.
