Senior Year "To Do" List

  • SEPTEMBER
  • Send in your applications as soon as possible.  APPLY EARLY!  Housing and some scholarships can go fast.
  • Athletes interested in competing at the Division I or II level must file a NCAA Clearinghouse form for eligibility.
  • Students considering a military career should meet with the recruiter and arrange to take the ASVAB.
  • Decide which teachers and other people you would like to write a letter of recommendation for you and contact them immediately. 
  • If necessary, register to retake the ACT or SAT.
  • Research public and private scholarships and grants using Internet Resources, "CHOICES" Financial Aid and/or Scholarships on Counseling Office Web Page.
  • Apply for scholarships found and keep up with scholarships that come to the counseling office all during the year.  Be sure to keep copies for your records.
  • Don't miss the deadlines!
  • Counseling Office needs one-week prior notice to process transcripts, college applications and scholarships!!
  • OCTOBER
  • Visit college fairs and talk with college representatives.  The Career Center has college reps and military recruiters visit, listen for announcements.
  • Retake (or take) the ACT or SAT.
  • NOVEMBER
  • Keep your grades up.
  • DECEMBER
  • Financial aid forms are now available in the counseling office.
  • Don't miss Financial Aid/Scholarship Night!
  • JANUARY
  • Send your completed financial aid forms as soon after January 1 as possible.
  • Keep a copy for your records.
  • FEBRUARY - MAY
  • Register for any Advanced Placement (AP) tests that you are prepared to take.  A good score can earn you credit at many colleges.
  • During this time you should receive notification from the schools to which you applied.  Notify the school you have chosen to attend by May 1.
  • Notify those you will not attend.
  • You'll receive your Student Aid Report (SAR).  You will need to:  Make corrections if needed.
    Send it to the financial aid office at the college of your choice.
  • Follow up to check that all materials have arrived at your college.  (SAR, Housing, etc.)
  • Check into CLEP test opportunities at your college.
  • After receiving an award letter from the Financial Aid Office at your college, sign it and send it back.
  • Apply for any loans you qualify for.
  • Complete and turn in Senior Check-Out Sheet to Attendance Office.  Be sure to include address of college admission office so final transcript can be sent.
  • JUNE - AUGUST
  • Supply any additional information needed by your College Admissions and/or Financial Aid Office.
  • Attend orientation, if offered.
