National Board Certification is a prestigious honor awarded to teachers across the country based upon candidates' application and their subsequent demonstration of five core propositions that define the teaching profession:

Teacher commitment
Teacher knowledge
Teacher assessment
Teacher reflection
Teacher learning

Individuals seeking consideration of this award must submit a portfolio of work and analysis based upon their actual experiences with students in the classroom. Video segments of classroom instruction, student work, and student learning are described, dissected and analyzed to show tangible evidence of the teaching/learning process. Candidates must also "take a test" in demonstration of their content knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge to novel situations. In its entirety, the National Board Certification process is a rigorous one, challenging even the most accomplished teachers to new heights of professional growth and development.

Pleasant Valley is extremely proud of its Nationally Board Certified teachers and celebrates the hard work, professionalism, and dedicated service that have earned them this distinction.
