What would it benefit a person to gain the whole world and lose their health? Twenty four hours are given to each of us each day. We have no control over the amount of time we have been given each day. However we do have control over what goes into it. We do have control over what investments are being made during each day to be able to enjoy the days to come. Investments are made by many for college and career preparation. Investments are made by many for family activities. These are wise investments. However, what will it benefit a person if they gain the whole world and lose their health? Physical activity is essential to the development and maintenance of good health. Research findings clearly demonstrates that daily exercise from early childhood throughout adult life is a primary factor in maintaining health and enriching the quality of life. The goal, then, of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthy physical activity. Physical education is a necessity for the health and well-being of every student and includes activities focused on the development of physical and motor fitness; fundamental motor skills and patterns; skills in dance and individual and group games. The goal of the elementary physical education program is the introduction and exploration of physical education skills and concepts. Students, at the elementary level are guided through various developmentally appropriate experiences and activities that promote a desire to engage in physical activities, promote a sense of self worth, encourage teamwork and cooperation, foster self control and lead to choices that promote a healthy lifestyle. So what is in a day with Mr. Dennis? It is full of various fun activities that promote lifelong health and physical fitness. What a wonderful future for the students, to be able to fulfill all their lifelong goals and to be healthy enough to enjoy them for a longtime. |
