BOARD OF EDUCATION, SPECIAL MEETING, BELMONT ADMINISTRATION OFFICE
Thursday, July 8, 2010 – 5:30 P.M. C.D.S.T.
Special meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by President Dayman.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Bullock (telephonically), Dayman, Dohmen, Paulsen, Witters. Absent: Archer and Huegel.
Also Present: Jim Spelhaug, Christine Harvey, Mike Clingingsmith, Brian Strusz and Ray LaFrentz.
AGENDA APPROVED: Motion by Witters, second by Dohmen to approve the agenda as presented. All ayes. Motion carried.
Director Archer arrived at 5:33 p.m.
PUBLIC HEARING – PLEASANT VALLEY JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TRACK PROJECT: The Public Hearing was opened at 6:34 p.m. There being no comment, the public hearing was closed at 6:35 p.m.
ACCEPTANCE OF PVJH TRACK PROJECT BIDS: Dr. Spelhaug explained that the bids for the junior high track were due at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8. Bids were received from Scott County Fence Co., Tri City Blacktop, Inc., General Asphalt Construction Company and Midwest Tennis and Track Co. There are three parts to the project: base, fencing, and surface. Timelines for the base are July 12 – August 23; for the fencing August 2 – August 23; and for the surface August 24 – September 3.
Motion by Witters, second by Paulsen that the Board approve the low base bid of $226,712.00 for the base work from Tri City Blacktop, Inc. for the Pleasant Valley Junior High School Track Project. Roll call vote. Ayes – Witters, Archer, Bullock, Dayman, Dohmen, Paulsen. Nays – none. Motion carried.
Motion by Dohmen, second by Archer that the Board approve the low base bid of $67,244.00 for the track surface work from Midwest Tennis and Track Co. for the Pleasant Valley Junior High School Track Project. Roll call vote. Ayes – Dohmen, Paulsen, Witters, Archer, Bullock, Daymen. Nays – none. Motion carried.
Motion by Paulsen, second by Dohmen that the Board approve the low base bid of $18,389.00 and Alternate #1 for an addition of $15,603.00, for a total cost of $33,992.00 for the fencing work from Scott County Fence Co. for the Pleasant Valley Junior High School Track Project. Roll call vote. Ayes – Paulsen, Witters, Archer, Bullock, Daymen, Dohmen. Nays – none. Motion carried.
Dr. Spelhaug commented that this project will be an excellent improvement to the district’s overall facilities, the junior high program, developmental programs, and to the north end citizens. It will also provide a good transition for the high school track program during the replacement of the high school’s track next year.
